Fact is stranger than fiction
It has taken more than a billion years for the varied species of flora and fauna to evolve and thrive but only two hundred years (200) or so for mankind to make a significant and everlasting negative impact upon it. A recent report by the United Nations detailed mankind (we collectively) have lost many species of animal and plant life over the past century, but most distributing, we can look forward to losing a further 1 million unique flora or fauna species, from our shared global bio-mass, by 2050, barring major action or intervention.
Bat populations around the world are in serious decline. Given that a bat can eat 1,000 mosquitoes every waking hour, if we lose bats, we will have an many more misquotes and other insects. What does that mean for diseases carried by mosquitoes? Will we face epidemic diseases like Malaria, Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, the Zika infection or worse still, new diseases as yet unknown, transported by mosquitoes. Fact is stranger than Fiction.
Loss of wild horses have impacted traditional grasslands of Central Asia. Environmentalists want to reintroduce a close bread of wild horses. Over the course of three years the researchers tracked plant and pollinator populations inside and outside of the test enclosures. Where horses grazed, the total number of plant species increased, as did populations of butterflies and bumblebees. The vegetation shifted towards a grassland state. So, removal of wild horses, over time had a massive negative impact on the sustainability of native grasslands. Who would of though!
In a world were fact is stranger than fiction, it will also be true that supporting an enterprise focused on cleaning up the planet, through a Platform as a Service (PaaS) software architecture, will be most rewarding in terms of return on social capital and return on capital employed. The greatest benefit of platform architecture is in its ability to aggregate the many ‘unorganised’ and ‘dispossessed’ to a shared purpose, function and achievement whilst enabling and empowering scale. The platform takes highly fragmented effort, individual, business, industry and sector and aggregates into a single domain creating amazing size, access, utility and potential collaborative efficiencies where none previously existed. It also creates a new marketplace where revenue and partnership opportunities are yet to be defined. Many opportunities will arise for businesses to get involved in this $28.6 trillion opportunity.
